Biography
Back in the mid-sixties the Student Union Building (SUB) in Canyon, Texas was a great place to hear a lot of local Rock bands and even some famous ones too. Hester played here in a 4-piece band called 'The Westwinds'. It was with big John Holcombe, Robin Brown, and Gene Hefner. This was in late '64 or '65 at West Texas State University (WTSU). They all set up along the east wall in the main room and played a dance in the same spot where Lucky Floyd and the Sparkles often played. Hester than joined the “Soul Seekers” in the late 1960’s with Bill Coleman and Bill Waldrop. Hester was lead vocals and guitar. The Soul Seekers played dances in the SUB and also frat parties and High School Proms around the Panhandle. Hester was then invited to join the Gemini Five as lead singer and rhythm. The only recording that may exist of Gemini Five were made at a senior-prom in Tulia, Texas in 1965–66. This recording was made by the local radio station KTUE and excerpts from it were played later on the air.
