Biography
John “Fink” Cable began playing in Lubbock, Texas in 1969 behind the Texas Tech University Student Union Building. They played casual concerts every Tuesday. He met and later joined the Texas band, Colours. They played all over the country for three and a half years. He later joined the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band in the late 70s. His time with the Dirt Band was highlighted by the first tour by an American band in the Soviet Union in 1976.
The band aired on the Tonight Show, Midnight Special, Austin City Limits, and Grand Ole Opry. They also performed at venues like Carnegie Hall, Wolftrap, and countless festivals and concerts with ZZ Top, Willie Nelson, Charlie Daniels, Steve Martin, Randy Newman, Ry Cooder, and Little Feat.
Cable left the Dirt Band to join his friends from Michael Martin Murphey's band. He teamed up with one of the most talented songwriters. Richard Dean. He’s had the opportunity to play with wonderful musicians over the years such as Chuck Pyle, Sam Broussard, Kenny Vaughan, John Macy, Stephen Croes, John McEuen, Jeff Hanna, Jimmy Ibbotson and a many more.
