Biography
Joe Don Davidson died of liver cancer on April 1, 2009. Joe Don was an iconic guitarist, performer and collaborator in West Texas. In the shadow of Buddy Holly, Joe Don began his professional career in the early sixties playing in a band with Joe Ely. He graduated from Monterey High School in 1968 and attended Texas Tech part time for a few years after that. While Joe Don's career took him across the United States, he always returned to his home town.
During his 45-year career, Joe Don shared the stage with many musical greats including Stevie Ray Vaughan, the Beach Boys and Huey Lewis. He played for The Planets. Joe Don was a free spirit and touched the lives of many people through music, philosophy, and simply as a warm and honest human being.
A memorial concert benefiting Joe Don's younger children was performed on May 17, 2009 at the Cactus Theater featuring the Planets, Electric Gypsies, LTRM All Stars, and the Pythons.
